Odisha School Hostels Report 24 Minor Pregnancies

Twenty-four minor girls in Odisha school hostels under the ST & SC Development Department became pregnant over the last two years. The Odisha Legislative Assembly was informed that 15 girls were found pregnant in the 2025-26 academic year, and nine in 2024-25. Those responsible were identified as neighbours or outsiders, not school staff. A previous study on sexual abuse in residential schools between 2011 and 2016 identified headmasters and teachers as responsible for pregnancies. Activists express serious concern over the recurring incidents despite existing guidelines.

ओडिशा के स्कूल हॉस्टलों में पिछले दो सालों में 24 नाबालिग लड़कियाँ गर्भवती पाई गईं। यह जानकारी ओडिशा विधानसभा को दी गई। 2025-26 में 15 और 2024-25 में 9 मामले सामने आए। इन घटनाओं के लिए पड़ोसियों या बाहरी लोगों को जिम्मेदार ठहराया गया है, न कि स्कूल स्टाफ को। पहले भी ऐसे मामले सामने आए हैं, जिससे चिंता बढ़ गई है।
