Ankita Bhandari's Parents, Oppn Leaders Detained After India Gate Protest

Delhi Police detained Ankita Bhandari's parents and several opposition leaders around 4 am following an overnight protest at India Gate. The protesters demanded that the appointment of BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam as Sikkim governor be halted during the ongoing CBI probe into Ankita's case. Congress leaders criticized the police action, calling it an attack on democracy and those seeking justice for Bhandari. Ankita was murdered in September 2022, and the accused were sentenced to life imprisonment in May 2025.

दिल्ली पुलिस ने इंडिया गेट पर रात भर चले विरोध प्रदर्शन के बाद सुबह करीब 4 बजे अंकिता भंडारी के माता-पिता और कई विपक्षी नेताओं को हिरासत में ले लिया। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने मांग की थी कि अंकिता के मामले में चल रही CBI जांच के दौरान भाजपा नेता दुष्यंत कुमार गौतम की सिक्किम के राज्यपाल के रूप में नियुक्ति रोकी जाए। कांग्रेस नेताओं ने पुलिस की कार्रवाई की आलोचना करते हुए इसे लोकतंत्र और भंडारी के लिए न्याय मांगने वालों पर हमला बताया। अंकिता की हत्या सितंबर 2022 में हुई थी, और मई 2025 में आरोपियों को आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई गई थी।
