No Charges On UPI Transactions Up

The government has directed banks and payment providers not to charge for UPI transactions or RuPay debit card payments up to Rs 2,000. This directive follows an amendment to the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, enabling a Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) framework. While charges for transactions above Rs 2,000 are undecided, the government cited the need for system upgrades, cybersecurity, and self-sustainability for future growth.

सरकार ने बैंकों और पेमेंट कंपनियों को निर्देश दिया है कि वे 2,000 रुपये तक के UPI ट्रांजैक्शन या RuPay डेबिट कार्ड पेमेंट पर कोई चार्ज न लें। यह फैसला पेमेंट एंड सेटलमेंट सिस्टम्स एक्ट में बदलाव के बाद आया है, जिससे MDR फ्रेमवर्क लागू हो गया है। 2,000 रुपये से ज़्यादा के ट्रांजैक्शन पर चार्ज का फैसला अभी बाकी है। सरकार ने सिस्टम अपग्रेड, साइबर सुरक्षा और भविष्य के विकास के लिए आत्मनिर्भरता की ज़रूरत बताई है।
