Nana Patekar reveals underworld connection: Manya Surve was his cousin

Veteran actor Nana Patekar disclosed in an old interview that if he hadn't pursued acting, his aggressive nature might have led him into the underworld. He revealed that his maternal relatives were involved in the underworld, and his cousin, Mumbai underworld don Manya Surve, was his maternal uncle's son. Patekar credited his mother for steering him away from a life of crime and towards acting. His mother moved the family to Murud-Janjira to raise them away from Mumbai's criminal environment for a better future.
