जम्मू और कश्मीर नेशनल कॉन्फ्रेंस के अध्यक्ष फारूक अब्दुल्ला ने कहा कि पाकिस्तान द्वारा कश्मीर मुद्दे को अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर उठाना ही वह वजह है जिससे इस क्षेत्र के लोग सुरक्षित हैं। उन्होंने सुझाव दिया कि कश्मीरियों के प्रति भारत का इरादा अच्छा नहीं है। अब्दुल्ला ने लोगों से अपने अधिकारों के लिए खड़े होने का आग्रह किया, और भाजपा शासित क्षेत्रों में कथित उत्पीड़न का हवाला दिया। उन्होंने चिकित्सा शिक्षा नीतियों को संभालने के लिए वर्तमान प्रशासन की भी आलोचना की, जिसमें अस्पताल सेवा पूरी न करने वाले छात्रों के लिए 40 लाख रुपये के अनिवार्य भुगतान का भी जिक्र था। इन बयानों पर भाजपा और विहिप ने तीखी आलोचना की है।
