The Karnataka government has claimed that petrol sold at various pumps contains more than the mandated 20% ethanol blend. After testing 63 samples from Indian Oil, HPCL, BPCL, Nayara, and Shell, the state found ethanol content exceeding 20% in seven districts, reaching as high as 31.2%. Oil companies reportedly failed to provide clear answers regarding ethanol quantities. The government plans to send these test reports to the central government, citing potential vehicle damage, reduced mileage, and increased maintenance costs as consequences of higher ethanol blending.
