The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is collaborating with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to simplify the onboarding process for foreign portfolio investors (FPIs). Sebi chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey stated that inter-regulatory coordination has significantly improved, resolving numerous issues. Previously, FPIs had to navigate multiple regulators and entities, making market access cumbersome. The India Market Access portal, launched in September 2025, aims to expedite this process digitally. Both regulators are also developing a framework for bond indices trading on exchanges.
