Good Diet Lowers Cholesterol Risk Even With Genetic Predisposition

A Chennai-based study involving 1,020 adults has revealed that a good-quality diet can mitigate the genetic predisposition to high cholesterol. Researchers found that poor dietary habits amplified genetic susceptibility, leading to significantly higher total and LDL cholesterol levels in individuals with a higher genetic risk. Conversely, those consuming medium- or high-quality diets showed no significant cholesterol differences between high- and low-genetic-risk groups. These findings underscore the critical role of healthy eating in countering cardiometabolic risks, especially in India where cases of diabetes and cardiovascular disease are rapidly increasing.
