UK GCSE Science Material Features Only One Woman Scientist

A Cambridge study revealed that UK GCSE science specifications name only one woman, Rosalind Franklin, among 86 scientists. This lack of representation in compulsory science education may discourage girls from pursuing STEM subjects like physics and mathematics after age 16. Researchers found that while girls perform well in science, fewer choose these advanced subjects compared to boys. The study examined specifications from six major UK examination boards, highlighting a significant gender gap in STEM subject choices post-GCSE.
