Tigray Rebels Launch Offensive, Sparking War Fears

Fears of renewed civil war are rising in Ethiopia as Tigray rebels launch an offensive into neighbouring Afar and Amhara states. The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has formed a new rebel coalition aiming to overthrow Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government. Fighting between the Ethiopian army and TPLF previously killed around 600,000 people. The TPLF has seized airports and towns, with Ethiopian Airlines suspending flights to the region.
