Business Standard · business

SBI Research has advised the government and RBI to curb non-essential remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) and scrutinise overseas direct investment (ODI) outflows to ease pressure on the rupee. The report highlights a significant rise in general travel expenditure compared to spending on studies abroad, and increased ODI outflows in recent years. It suggests addressing vulnerabilities in both current and capital accounts to defend the rupee. The report also recommends measures on taxation and external commercial borrowings to deepen domestic borrowing avenues.
