The UK has revised immigration rules, doubling the wait for permanent residency to 10 years for most foreign workers, with refugees arriving by "small boats" facing a 30-year wait. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced exemptions for hundreds of thousands of care workers, who can now apply after five years if earning at least £25,000. Eligibility for others will be tied to income, with higher earners qualifying sooner. These changes, effective next year, apply retroactively and aim to link settlement rights to contributions.
