Seven banned armed groups in Manipur have called for a 12-hour shutdown on October 15 to protest the state's 1949 merger with India. The groups, largely comprising Meitei people, cited violations of international and domestic legal provisions, including UN Charter and the Manipur State Constitution Act, 1947. They alleged that King Bodhchandra was pressured into signing the merger agreement under duress. The outfits criticised India's post-independence policies, accusing the country of adopting an imperialist approach and fuelling communal tensions.
