Chandigarh Residents Oppose Higher Buildings, Demand Infrastructure First

Times of India · india

Chandigarh residents have strongly opposed proposed amendments to the Master Plan, particularly concerning denser and taller housing. Concerns raised include traffic congestion, inadequate parking, and strain on water and sewerage systems. Many stakeholders feel that higher buildings are inconsistent with the city's low-rise, green character and original planning principles. While a few supported densification for housing needs, the majority pushed back against increased floor area ratios and building heights, especially in Phase III and Maloya. Residents are urging authorities to prioritize infrastructure development before considering any vertical expansion.
