Allahabad High Court: Universities Not Forced To Accept JEST For PhD

The Allahabad High Court has ruled that universities are not obligated to accept Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) scores as a substitute for UGC NET for PhD admissions. The court dismissed a plea from a candidate seeking to use his JEST score for admission to Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow. The university had prescribed UGC NET as the eligibility criterion, which was also stated in its admission prospectus. The High Court clarified that while JEST is a national-level exam, institutions can set their own criteria based on regulations.

इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट ने फैसला सुनाया है कि विश्वविद्यालय पीएचडी प्रवेश के लिए UGC NET के बदले JEST (Joint Entrance Screening Test) स्कोर स्वीकार करने के लिए बाध्य नहीं हैं। कोर्ट ने एक ऐसे उम्मीदवार की याचिका खारिज कर दी जो डॉ. शकुंतला मिश्रा राष्ट्रीय पुनर्वास विश्वविद्यालय, लखनऊ में प्रवेश के लिए अपने JEST स्कोर का उपयोग करना चाहता था। विश्वविद्यालय ने UGC NET को पात्रता मानदंड के रूप में निर्धारित किया था, जो उसके प्रवेश प्रॉस्पेक्टस में भी बताया गया था। हाई कोर्ट ने स्पष्ट किया कि JEST एक राष्ट्रीय स्तर की परीक्षा है, लेकिन संस्थान नियमों के आधार पर अपने मानदंड तय कर सकते हैं।
