Actress Shabana Azmi has stated, "Yes, I am a Muslim," expressing her fondness for Eid, Urdu language, and food. She shared in an interview that while her father was an atheist and her mother observed some religious practices, she identifies with her Muslim heritage culturally. Azmi mentioned that her husband, Javed Akhtar, who is a staunch atheist, sometimes objects to her use of phrases like 'Inshallah' and 'Mashallah'. She believes religion is a personal matter and that individuals should be allowed to practice their faith if it brings them peace.

अभिनेत्री शबाना आजमी ने कहा, "हाँ, मैं एक मुस्लिम हूँ", और ईद, उर्दू भाषा और खाने के प्रति अपना लगाव जाहिर किया। उन्होंने एक इंटरव्यू में बताया कि जहाँ उनके पिता नास्तिक थे और माँ कुछ धार्मिक प्रथाओं का पालन करती थीं, वहीं वह सांस्कृतिक रूप से अपनी मुस्लिम विरासत से जुड़ी हुई हैं। आजमी ने बताया कि उनके पति, जावेद अख्तर, जो पक्के नास्तिक हैं, कभी-कभी उन्हें 'इंशाअल्लाह' और 'माशाअल्लाह' जैसे शब्दों का इस्तेमाल करने पर आपत्ति जताते हैं। उनका मानना है कि धर्म एक व्यक्तिगत मामला है और अगर इससे शांति मिलती है तो लोगों को अपनी आस्था का पालन करने की अनुमति दी जानी चाहिए।
