NGT Orders Action on Perumbakkam Waste Management

The National Green Tribunal's southern bench has ordered the St Thomas Mount panchayat union to stop dumping solid waste near Perumbakkam lake and install CCTV cameras. This directive comes amid concerns over the lack of proper solid waste management facilities, with the panchayat generating approximately 40 tonnes of garbage daily. The tribunal has also instructed the Chengalpet collector to find a suitable site for waste collection, segregation, processing, and scientific disposal.

नेशनल ग्रीन ट्रिब्यूनल (NGT) की दक्षिणी बेंच ने सेंट थॉमस माउंट पंचायत यूनियन को पेरंबक्कम झील के पास कचरा फेंकने से मना कर दिया है। साथ ही, वहां CCTV कैमरे लगाने का आदेश दिया है। यह फैसला कचरा प्रबंधन की कमी को देखते हुए आया है, क्योंकि पंचायत हर दिन करीब 40 टन कचरा पैदा करती है। ट्रिब्यूनल ने चेंगलपेट कलेक्टर को कचरा इकट्ठा करने, छांटने और वैज्ञानिक तरीके से निपटाने के लिए एक सही जगह ढूंढने को भी कहा है।
