RBI Closes Forex Swap Facility Early

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will close its discounted forex swap facility for banks a month ahead of schedule. This decision comes after the scheme successfully attracted significant foreign exchange inflows. Deposits raised from non-resident Indians (NRIs) have exceeded $50 billion, prompting the early closure. The facility was designed to boost foreign currency reserves.

भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक (RBI) बैंकों के लिए अपनी डिस्काउंटेड फॉरेक्स स्वैप सुविधा को तय समय से एक महीना पहले ही बंद कर देगा। यह फैसला इसलिए लिया गया है क्योंकि इस योजना से काफी विदेशी मुद्रा का प्रवाह बढ़ा है। गैर-निवासी भारतीयों (NRIs) से जमा राशि 50 अरब डॉलर से ज़्यादा हो गई है, जिसके चलते इसे जल्दी बंद किया जा रहा है। इस सुविधा का मकसद विदेशी मुद्रा भंडार को बढ़ाना था।
