Cybercriminals posing as anti-terrorist squad officers have defrauded an 89-year-old retired civil defence official of ₹16 lakh. The victim, Vijay Prakash Gupta, was held in a 'digital arrest' for 22 days and threatened with implication in the Pulwama terror incident. The fraudsters convinced him to cooperate with their investigation, claiming they would issue him a certificate of innocence. They allegedly made him transfer money from his bank accounts for verification and to break fixed deposits.

एंटी-टेररिस्ट स्क्वाड (एटीएस) के अधिकारियों का भेष बदलकर साइबर अपराधियों ने 89 वर्षीय सेवानिवृत्त नागरिक सुरक्षा अधिकारी से 16 लाख रुपये की ठगी की है। पीड़ित, विजय प्रकाश गुप्ता, को 22 दिनों तक 'डिजिटल गिरफ्तारी' में रखा गया और पुलवामा आतंकी घटना में फंसाने की धमकी दी गई। जालसाजों ने उन्हें अपनी बेगुनाही का सर्टिफिकेट जारी करने का दावा करते हुए जांच में सहयोग करने के लिए मना लिया। उन्होंने कथित तौर पर सत्यापन के लिए और फिक्स्ड डिपॉजिट तोड़ने के लिए उन्हें अपने बैंक खातों से पैसे ट्रांसफर करवाए।
