Kerala High Court Orders District Animal Market Monitoring Committees Formation
Times of India · india
The Kerala High Court has ordered the formation of district animal market monitoring committees within two months, as mandated by the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules, 2017. The court warned that failure to comply would lead to the closure of all livestock markets. This directive came after a PIL highlighted animals being exposed to extreme temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius in markets lacking roofs. The court noted that only Idukki district had formed such a committee, questioning the compliance claims from other districts.
