Telangana Faces Unprecedented October Dry Spell, Recording 95% Rainfall Deficit

Times of India · environment

Telangana has recorded a significant 95% rainfall deficit in October so far, receiving only 3.5 mm of rain against a normal 75.6 mm between October 1 and 21. Twelve districts have experienced no rainfall, while the remaining 21 reported substantial deficits. This dry spell is concerning given that October is typically a wetter month for the state. Officials fear the prolonged dry conditions, potentially exacerbated by El Niño, could negatively impact soil moisture, crop prospects, and water availability across the region.
