Hindustan Times · india
The Supreme Court has set aside a directive by Uttar Pradesh Police to obtain a journalist's digital footprint from June onwards. The court termed the Ghaziabad police's order to social media platform 'X' as an "overkill," questioning the relevance of past social media activity for a road rage case. The bench quashed the notice, stating that confidential personal information prior to August 22 cannot be sought unless proportional and necessary. The court also stayed the journalist's arrest and directed the release of his vehicle.
