A joyous picnic turned tragic for a group of 11 women in Andhra Pradesh's Penukonda mandal when five of them drowned in the Gollapalli Reservoir on Friday. The victims, aged between 17 and 50, were residents of Dargah Peta in Penukonda town and belonged to three different families. While playing in the water after lunch, they ventured too deep, got trapped in the mud, and drowned while attempting to rescue each other. Local fishermen recovered the bodies, and authorities have registered a case. Political leaders expressed their condolences.
