Indian pilot Smit Machchhar's past comments about the importance of having a doctor on board during mid-air emergencies have resurfaced after he was injured in an attack by his co-pilot. Machchhar had spoken on a podcast about the crucial role of trained cabin crew and the luck of having medical professionals available. During the incident on Flydubai flight FZ1073, Machchhar was seriously wounded, but an Israeli dentist, Dr. Shota Musayev, was among the passengers and provided critical medical assistance.
