Punjab's assembly has passed a resolution demanding Rs 1.44 lakh crore in water royalty from Rajasthan. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated the government would pursue the claim through legal channels, questioning Rajasthan's continued use of water without payment. Rajasthan rejected the claim, citing a pre-Independence agreement from the 1920s between the princely state of Bikaner and the British government. This historical agreement reportedly provided for water allocation on a per-acre basis for irrigation but did not include royalty provisions.
