KWA is initiating a Rs 45 crore sewage recycling project in Thiruvananthapuram to alleviate pressure on the city's freshwater supply. The project involves establishing a 15 million-litre-a-day tertiary treatment plant to further process effluent from an existing plant. Recycled water will be supplied to major consumers like the airport, railways, and Technopark via pipelines. This initiative aims to meet the rising water demand from economic activities and ensure more freshwater is available for households, especially during peak summer.
