Sudan and Ethiopia Engage in Tit-for-Tat Diplomatic Expulsions Amidst Rising Tensions

Al Jazeera · world

Ethiopia has ordered six Sudanese diplomats to leave within 48 hours and closed Sudan’s consulate in Asosa, escalating tensions between the two nations. This move follows Sudan's accusation that Ethiopia allowed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to use its territory for drone attacks on civilian infrastructure. Sudan has lodged a complaint with the UN and AU, while also accusing Ethiopia of backing RSF rebels. Ethiopia, in turn, accuses Sudan of supporting rebels in its Tigray region, charges Khartoum denies. The diplomatic expulsions reflect a significant deterioration in bilateral relations.
