Northeast States Lead India In Public Sector Job Share

Contrary to popular belief, northeastern states like Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim have the highest proportion of workers in public sector jobs, with about 25% of their workforce employed in government or government-controlled entities. This is significantly higher than the national average of approximately 6%. The data comes from the 2023-24 Periodic Labour Force Survey. In contrast, states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh show a much lower public sector employment share, around 3%.
