Andhra Pradesh Rewrites Textbooks To End Gender Stereotypes
Times of India · education
Andhra Pradesh has revised its Class 1 and 2 textbooks to promote gender equality, depicting men and women sharing household chores and social roles equally. The new books illustrate fathers participating in kitchen work and both genders engaging in activities like collecting water and agricultural tasks. Illustrations also show girls playing musical instruments, breaking away from traditional gender associations. This initiative aims to prevent children from internalizing fixed gender roles from an early age and foster respect for women. The changes are now implemented in the state's revised textbooks.
