The Indian rupee advanced for a third consecutive session, reaching a one-month high on Wednesday due to hawkish commentary and regulatory measures from the central bank. However, demand from importers for hedging and portfolio outflows capped gains below the 95 per dollar mark. The currency peaked at 94.77 before closing 0.1% higher at 95.15. Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra defended recent forex curbs as a measure against speculative bets and indicated readiness for further steps to ensure orderly rupee movement.

Reserve Bank of India
