FSSAI Proposes Ban on Added Sugars in Infant Food for Under Six Months
Mint · health
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed a draft amendment to tighten rules for infant nutrition products. The proposed changes aim to ban the addition of sucrose and fructose to food intended for infants up to six months old. Currently, manufacturers can add these sugars within specified limits if necessary. This move aligns with recommendations for exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and aims to reduce risks associated with early sugar exposure, such as childhood obesity. FSSAI is seeking public feedback on the draft amendment.
