A New Mexico judge has ordered Meta Platforms to pay $25 billion after finding the company intentionally misled consumers about their data privacy. The judge initially deemed a penalty over $219 billion warranted but reduced it, calling Meta's actions "Facebook's wrongdoing" that "goes to the heart of Facebook's core business practices." New Mexico's Attorney General stated this is one of the largest single state verdicts against a company in US history.
