The Indian Navy will commission INS Samarthak, the first of four indigenously built Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs), at the Naval Base in Karwar on October 16. Built by Larsen & Toubro under the 'Make in India' initiative, the vessel is designed for diverse maritime missions including surveillance, patrol, and support for naval system trials. It can also be converted into a limited-capacity hospital ship and support salvage operations. The induction of Samarthak signifies a milestone in India's self-reliance in defence manufacturing and aims to strengthen the Navy's operational flexibility.
