Farmer Producer Organisations Formed Under Central Scheme Driven By Target Pressure: Report
Business Standard · business
A report indicates that many Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) formed after the Central government's scheme to create 10,000 FPOs have significantly lower paid-up capital than those formed earlier. FPOs established before 2021, with a median capital of ₹5 lakh, were built with genuine business intent. In contrast, those formed between 2021 and 2023 under scheme-target pressure have a median capital of just ₹1 lakh. Furthermore, a survey found that only 30% of respondent FPOs received bank loans, highlighting a persistent structural challenge.
