Man, Parents Convicted in Dowry Death Case; Sentenced to 7 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

A fast-track court in Kanpur has convicted a man, Sanjay Nishad, and his parents, Ram Pal and Gomti, in a dowry death case. They have been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and each fined Rs 20,000. The court noted that the accused had demanded a car and Rs 3 lakh in cash from the victim, Priya. Her family alleged that she was beaten by her in-laws over dowry demands before her death. The prosecution presented nine witnesses to support its case during the trial.

कानपुर की एक फास्ट-ट्रैक कोर्ट ने दहेज हत्या के मामले में संजय निषाद नाम के एक व्यक्ति और उसके माता-पिता राम पाल और गोमती को दोषी ठहराया है। उन्हें सात साल की कड़ी कैद की सजा सुनाई गई है और प्रत्येक पर 20,000 रुपये का जुर्माना भी लगाया गया है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि आरोपियों ने पीड़ित प्रिया से एक कार और 3 लाख रुपये नकद की मांग की थी। प्रिया के परिवार का आरोप है कि दहेज की मांग को लेकर ससुराल वालों ने उसे उसकी मौत से पहले पीटा था। अभियोजन पक्ष ने मुकदमे के दौरान अपने मामले का समर्थन करने के लिए नौ गवाह पेश किए।
