Karnataka HC: Criticising SC Judgment Not Criminal Unless Specific Conditions Met

Times of India · india

The Karnataka High Court has ruled that merely criticising a Supreme Court judgment by putting up posters does not automatically amount to criminal charges. The court quashed an FIR against 13 men accused of posting slogans in Mangaluru calling a judgment a denial of justice. Justice H P Sandesh stated that such expressions do not attract offences like promoting enmity or hurting religious feelings unless specific legal conditions are met. The ruling emphasizes that freedom of speech protects the right to disagree with court decisions, provided it doesn't incite disharmony.
