Chennai is experiencing an unusual increase in butterfly sightings, with nature educators noting more butterflies than usual on trails. Areas like Siruseri and Theosophical Society are reporting larger numbers. Notably, the painted lady butterfly, typically associated with the Western Ghats, has been spotted in unusually high numbers. This phenomenon is linked to the annual migration of danaine butterflies between the eastern plains and the Western Ghats, a journey of about 400km.
