Children's Shraddh Rituals Explained: When to Perform Malinsodashi

During Pitru Paksha, a period for ancestral remembrance, questions arise about performing rituals for deceased children. According to the Garuda Purana, traditional Shraddh is not performed for infants who die before birth or within two years of birth. For children aged two to six, a specific ritual called Malinsodashi is observed. This 10-day ceremony, also known as Dashagra, involves offering 16 pindas to aid the child's soul in its transition. Traditional Shraddh and Pindadan are recommended only for children aged six and above.
