Times of India · politics
The Supreme Court has ruled that voters can initiate criminal proceedings against election candidates for providing false information or lying in affidavits. A private complaint alleging an offence under Section 125-A of the Representation of People Act is maintainable, and the Election Commission's approval is not required. The top court clarified that Section 125A of the RoP Act does not fall under the restrictions of Section 195 of the CrPC.
