DMK Functionary Arrested in Trichy for Allegedly Grabbing Temple Land Worth ₹50 Crore

DMK Srirangam area secretary M Ramkumar was arrested by Trichy city crime branch police on Thursday for allegedly grabbing temple land worth ₹50 crore. His anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by the Madurai bench of the Madras high court. The FIR, registered, names Ramkumar and others for cheating and using forged documents. The 7,515 sq ft land, part of a larger temple property, reportedly had a DMK office built on it. Ramkumar's wife claims he was arrested on false charges while en route to court.

डीएमके के श्रीरंगम एरिया सेक्रेटरी एम रामकुमार को गुरुवार को तिरुचि शहर अपराध शाखा पुलिस ने ₹50 करोड़ की मंदिर की ज़मीन हड़पने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया। मद्रास हाई कोर्ट की मदुरै बेंच ने उनकी अग्रिम जमानत याचिका खारिज कर दी। दर्ज FIR में रामकुमार और अन्य पर धोखाधड़ी और जाली दस्तावेज़ों के इस्तेमाल का आरोप है। 7,515 वर्ग फुट की यह ज़मीन, जो एक बड़ी मंदिर संपत्ति का हिस्सा है, कथित तौर पर उस पर एक डीएमके कार्यालय बना हुआ था। रामकुमार की पत्नी का दावा है कि कोर्ट जाते समय उन्हें झूठे आरोपों में गिरफ्तार किया गया।
