New Transport Authority to Tackle India's Siloed Planning Gaps
Hindustan Times · india
India's Union Cabinet has approved the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority (ITLA) to address fragmented planning in transport infrastructure. The ITLA will prepare a National Transport Master Plan and test ministries' sectoral plans against it. It will also appraise central infrastructure projects costing ₹500 crore or more. Experts suggest the authority's effectiveness hinges on its granted powers, particularly veto power, to ensure coordinated development and avoid overlapping projects. Without sufficient authority, it risks undermining public interest and its own functioning.
