An RTI query has revealed that Kerala's Fire and Rescue Services department is facing a severe shortage of operational vehicles. The department requires 1,519 vehicles according to a 2023 study, but only 807 are currently functional. Furthermore, 21 vehicles are out of service due to pending repairs, and 232 have been discarded since April 2016. This critical deficit comes at a time when accidents and fire outbreaks in the state are reportedly on the rise, potentially impacting emergency response capabilities.
