Mumbai police have confirmed that a family preserved the body of an 80-year-old man for four years after his natural death in 2022. The family cited deep emotional attachment as the reason for not performing last rites, spending over ₹50 lakh on preservation. Initially kept in a home freezer, the body was moved to a local dispensary when the building underwent redevelopment. The family was exploring cryopreservation options abroad. Police have ruled out foul play, stating the death was due to cancer and other ailments.

मुंबई पुलिस ने पुष्टि की है कि एक परिवार ने 2022 में प्राकृतिक रूप से मृत्यु के बाद 80 वर्षीय व्यक्ति के शव को चार साल तक संरक्षित रखा। परिवार ने अंतिम संस्कार न करने के पीछे गहरा भावनात्मक लगाव बताया और इसे संरक्षित करने में ₹50 लाख से अधिक खर्च किए। शुरुआत में घर के फ्रीजर में रखे गए शव को बिल्डिंग के रीडेवलपमेंट के दौरान स्थानीय डिस्पेंसरी में ले जाया गया था। परिवार विदेश में क्रायोप्रिजर्वेशन के विकल्पों पर विचार कर रहा था। पुलिस ने किसी भी गलत काम से इनकार किया है, यह बताते हुए कि मौत कैंसर और अन्य बीमारियों के कारण हुई थी।
