India Will Not Allow Genetically Modified Product Imports: Commerce Minister Goyal

India has consistently prohibited the import of any genetically modified (GM) products and will continue to do so, stated Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. He emphasized that GM products are a highly sensitive issue for the nation. Goyal also highlighted the sensitivity surrounding the dairy sector, noting that India has never offered duty concessions for dairy in any free trade agreements. The minister assured that India prioritizes protecting its farmers, fishermen, and MSMEs by not compromising on sensitive agricultural items in trade pacts.

वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने कहा कि भारत ने लगातार किसी भी आनुवंशिक रूप से संशोधित (जीएम) उत्पादों के आयात पर रोक लगाई है और आगे भी ऐसा करता रहेगा। उन्होंने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि जीएम उत्पाद देश के लिए एक अत्यंत संवेदनशील मुद्दा हैं। गोयल ने डेयरी क्षेत्र के आसपास की संवेदनशीलता को भी उजागर किया, यह देखते हुए कि भारत ने किसी भी मुक्त व्यापार समझौते में डेयरी के लिए कभी भी शुल्क रियायतें नहीं दी हैं। मंत्री ने आश्वासन दिया कि भारत अपने किसानों, मछुआरों और एमएसएमई की सुरक्षा को प्राथमिकता देता है और व्यापार समझौतों में संवेदनशील कृषि वस्तुओं पर कोई समझौता नहीं करेगा।
