Walking Speed Linked To Early Death Risk, Study Finds

Times of India · health

A long-term study suggests that walking speed can significantly predict the risk of dying from any cause. Researchers analyzed data from thousands of adults over a decade, measuring both clinical walking speed and daily step cadence using wrist devices. For every standard increase in clinical walking speed, the risk of death decreased by 23 percent. Similarly, higher daily walking cadences were associated with lower death risks. These findings indicate that simple movement measurements can serve as reliable indicators of overall health and longevity.
