Following the central government's lead, the Punjab government has announced a 3% increase in the DA for its employees and pensioners. This hike raises the DA to 53%, a move Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann described as a Diwali gift to over eight lakh state government employees and pensioners. The government has now increased DA by 11% within two months, with a previous 8% hike. This decision will impose an additional annual financial burden of ₹4,712 crore on the state exchequer.
