Ernakulam's food safety department conducted a special drive, seizing 71 litres of used cooking oil from eateries and hotels. The oil had total polar compounds exceeding the FSSAI limit of 25%. During Operation Thelima, 83 inspections revealed violations of hygiene and manufacturing practices, including the use of newspapers for food wrapping. Rectification notices were issued, two shops face closure, and 22 firms were fined. Surveillance samples of reused oil were collected for quality testing.
