Delhi High Court Seeks Swift Decision On 50% Women Reservation In Medical Council

The Delhi High Court has urged the government to expedite a decision on implementing at least 50% reservation for women in the DMC. This directive came during a hearing on a public interest litigation seeking equal representation for female medical practitioners. While the court acknowledged it cannot directly mandate such a quota under the current Delhi Medical Council Act, 1997, it directed authorities to promptly consider the petitioner's request.

दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट ने सरकार से DMC में महिलाओं के लिए कम से कम 50% आरक्षण लागू करने के फैसले में तेजी लाने को कहा है। यह निर्देश महिला चिकित्सा पेशेवरों के लिए समान प्रतिनिधित्व की मांग करने वाली एक जनहित याचिका की सुनवाई के दौरान आया। हालांकि कोर्ट ने माना कि वह वर्तमान दिल्ली मेडिकल काउंसिल एक्ट, 1997 के तहत सीधे तौर पर ऐसा कोटा अनिवार्य नहीं कर सकता, लेकिन उसने अधिकारियों को याचिकाकर्ता के अनुरोध पर तुरंत विचार करने का निर्देश दिया।
