NTCA Recommends Elephant Corridor in Bandipur Buffer Zone

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has recommended the Union government declare Kaniyanapura forest an elephant corridor near Bandipur Tiger Reserve. This move aims to curb construction of luxury resorts and farmhouses that obstruct elephant movement. NTCA also flagged concerns over electric fencing, compound walls, and land purchases by outsiders for commercial ventures. The authority urged restrictions on commercial construction and loud activities, while ensuring local farmers' livelihoods are not adversely affected. This proposal follows a similar declaration in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris, which restricted construction in a key elephant corridor.
