Michael Douglas Recalls Lying to Avoid Vietnam War Draft

Times of India · entertainment

Michael Douglas has revealed he lied twice to avoid being drafted for the Vietnam War, as he was protesting the conflict. In his memoir, he detailed how a diagnosis of spondylitis, a spinal condition, helped him get a 1-Y designation, meaning he would only be called up in a dire emergency. His father, Kirk Douglas, also intervened by writing to the doctor to ensure the condition was presented without qualifying adjectives.
